Ferrous salts/Folic acid oral

Indications

  • Prevention of iron and folic acid deficiency, mainly during pregnancy.
  • Treatment of iron-deficiency anaemia.

Forms and strengths

  • Tablet of 185 mg ferrous fumarate or sulfate (60 mg of elemental iron) plus 400 micrograms folic acid (vitamin B9).

Contra-indications, adverse effects, precautions

  • This fixed-dose combination is not effective for the treatment of folic acid deficiency because of its low dose.
